POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Policies and procedures are the foundation of Georgia State’s data governance program. Collectively, they provide guidance for classifying, accessing, utilizing and retaining the university’s data. The Data Advisory Group (DAG) determines whether new or modified policies and procedures are needed and works together to document the university’s data practices.

Georgia State's data governance policies are the result of the collective efforts of business and technical units. Working together and openly discussing needed policy elements is central to the university's Data Governance Program.

As a member of the University System of Georgia (USG), the Georgia State Data Governance Program follows the USG’s business procedures issued in March 2019 regarding data governance. The USG’s data governance policies provide the framework for Georgia State’s data governance efforts. Georgia State developed a set of policies, procedures, standards and guidelines to be used across the university when working with data. The program is led by the Data Governance Manager who continues to shape and develop the program with the university's data needs in mind.
